An FTX (Field Training Exercise) is a mandatory weekend event that occurred twice a year, with each cadet expected to attend at least one FTX to complete their level requirements. Last year it was only a one day event, however, it is normally three days and two nights. Cadets learn survival skills such as building a fire, putting up their own tents, and the cadets get to eat MREs. During an FTX, cadets may learn additional survival skills such as lighting a campstove, building shelters, tying knots, how to collect water, and practice map and compass skills. Typically, we have one FTX in the winter for senior cadets, and one FTX in the spring for junior cadets.
